Day 1: Flagstaff to Grand Canyon, AZ

Day 1
It was finally here, Day 1 of the GTD bike ride. The morning in Flagstaff was clear and cool. After oatmeal and prayer Brad and I began to pedal toward the Grand Canyon. The first little climb in Flagstaff reminded me that we were at altitude.

The next half hour was easy then we began a five mile climb that was challenging. After the climb came a real nice downgrade. For the next two hours we made good time thanks to a strong tailwind. We stopped for lunch in Valle, AZ. After lunch till we got to the Maswik Lodge we did a lot of climbing. Fortunately we still had a good tailwind. Unfortunately Brad had a flat ten miles out of Tusayan.

Our mileage for the day was 84 and our average speed was 13. Tomorrow we ride along the south rim on 64 and after Desert View we continue on Hwy 64 to Cameron, AZ.

As always, prayers appreciated.
