The first Prep Ride I chose to ride east and south. This second ride I chose to ride north and west to O'Leno SP. Since the Park was just north of High Springs I determined that I could take a longer route to get a few more miles.
As I packed I included the various items that I forgot on my first Prep Ride. As I set out west on 53rd I realized the weather and wind was no joke, fortunately overcast but no rain and the wind was to my side and back instead of in my face.
As I cycled north on 231 trash cans and recycling bins were being blown over and debris onto the road. I stopped at McDonalds in Alachua for a break and a snack. Because of the conditions I chose to take the shorter direct route to the Park, it still was very challenging.
I arrived at the Park and set up Camp. Because I was at a State Park I had access to electric and water at my Site. The weather and wind conditions did knockout power at the Park for awhile. After ax shower and dinner a light rain began to fall so I retired to my tent. I listened to the radio and watched the weather radar. At one point I saw the red line of a bad storm approaching me. The wind and rain picked up and thunder cracked not too far away. It was at that point I decided to evacuate mt tent for the Bathroom Facility, smart move!
The storm was really strong for half an hour and then it began to let up some. I ran back to mt tent to see if there had been any damage, none PTL! I did have a little moisture in my tent to wipe up but for the most part my rain cover and tent fared really well.
After a good nights sleep in a light rain I awoke to no rain but some wind. Fortunately, once again, the wind was to my side and back.
Once again I chose the shorter direct route home but included a stop at Ocean Buffet for lunch.
Even though both days were just shy of 40 miles each the weather and wind made them challenging days. My legs tired early so that is cause for concern. I will spend more time this next week commuting around town on my Rig before setting out to Orlando to begin a 4 day Ride from Apopka to Ft. Pierce and back.
No major revelations this Trip re: anything I left behind or forgot todo. Improvement! My main concern going into the 4 day Trip is my legs. 2 days will be 80+ miles so my mind is already racing re: the potential for physical and mental struggle as I anticipate those days being really long. We'll see.
Until then Live Adventurously & Love God!
